THIS IS FOR A 1963 GREECE 30 DRACHMAI PAUL I / CENTENNIAL - FIVE GREEK KINGS COIN KM# 86 BU+ AS PICTURED. THE COIN IS 18.0 grams, .835 silver & .4832 oz. ASW.
Picture is of average coin in the lot.
Only two Greek silver 30 drachmai coins were ever minted— the “5 Kings” type, commemorating the centennial of the Royal Greek Dynasty in 1963, and the “Royal Wedding” type, celebrating the wedding of King Constantine II and Anne-Marie in 1964. It has been fifty years since these coins were minted, and predictably, they are becoming harder and harder to find in nice condition. When we were offered a small group in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, we were surprised and delighted.
Composition 82.5 % silver. On the obverse of the 1963 “5 Kings” Commemorative is a map of Greece and the surrounding area. At the lower left is a galleon under full sail, and near the bottom are two dolphins, one on each side of the denomination. On the reverse is a ring of five medallions, each with the portrait of one of the five kings who ruled Greece from 1863 to 1963: George I, Constantine I, Alexander I, George II, and Paul I. The medallions are arranged around a crowned coat of arms, with the dates 1863 and 1963 at the top. A gorgeous LARGE silver crown type coin.
